Job Description


The Medical Receptionist is responsible for answering incoming calls, directing calls to appropriate staff, greeting, and checking in all patients for office appointments, including paperwork for patients to fill out, scanning insurance cards, entering all demographic information into the electronic health record, entering referrals for office visits into EMR (Electronic Medical Record), scanning for staff as needed, and working closely with physicians and staff.
 
  • Greets and directs all patients within the practice.
  • Obtaining patient demographics during the referral process, creating patient charts, and verifying insurance.
  • Obtaining necessary patient information to meet current Federal guidelines and Meaningful Use guidelines for electronic medical records.
  • Scanning pertinent patient information into EMR including patient authorizations, recent labs delivered by patient, etc.
  • Obtaining patient authorization for medical records release (HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) compliance).
  • Schedules any necessary appointments after completion of patient visit.
  • Monitor and review patient schedules for all next day appointments – collect copays and verify insurance.
  • Identifying and resolving minor patient billing complaints.
  • Insurance Verification of all clients
  • Assists in ordering, receiving, and stocking of office supplies.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of office(s).
  • Assists other Medical Receptionists and Medical Secretaries as needed



 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Minimum of a High School diploma; Associate Degree preferred.
  • At least one year of relevant experience and/or training.
  • EMR experience preferred.

Knowledge:

  • One year or more experience resolving and analyzing customer-related issues.
  • 3-5 years of experience in an office environment using telephones and computers for diverse administrative duties.
  • Prior experience working in a clinic, hospital setup, or healthcare provider office.
  • Highly efficient in time management and task prioritization.

Training:

  • Ongoing and continuous professional development.

Availability
  • Ideally Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Some weeks may be up to 5 days onsite if needed

Experience:

  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience.

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Frequent communication, reaching, and manipulation of objects and office equipment.
  • Mobility is required.
  • Regular movement of materials weighing up to 10 pounds, occasionally exceeding 25 pounds.

Typical Mental Demands:

  • Good judgment, consistency, and tolerance.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse population.
