ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Assessment, Research, and Evaluation staff supports a model of continuous improvement for the school district by providing data on critical factors that impact educational experiences and achievement, from instruction to professional development and school culture.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES We are looking for six Youth Data Analyst interns to join our Assessment, Research, and Evaluation team this summer. Our team is looking for students who will help us analyze district data through the lens of race, theory, current education research, and their own experience. Students will also be introduced to the research process as it relates to the history of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), data collection methods and analysis. Much of this summer's curriculum will be grounded in the University of California-Berkeley's Youth-led Participatory Action Research (YPAR) Hub and Minnesota's conversations about the opportunity gap in education.
This summer's project will be focused on studying the topic of academic intervention. More specifically, the goal of this project will be to learn about what interventions are (and are not), and where our schools need to provide intervention based on our data, and our students' lived experiences. The goal of this internship will be to support our school leaders in creating Continuous Improvement Plans (CIP) that will center student voice. Our students will present their findings on August 15th (8 am - noon) at our annual Data Advance. Any student interested in this topic is encouraged to apply.
This summer position starts on
June 24, 2024 . Students will have an opportunity to extend their research projects, unpaid, through the 2024-2025 academic year based on student interest.
Interns will earn $1200 (before tax). A Direct Deposit Account is required for payment. Students who have not graduated from high school will earn high school credit for successful completion of the internship. Students will also earn a letter grade based upon successful completion of the requirements of the internship, supervisor evaluations, documentation of hours worked, and student written reflections.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interns will develop research skills. This includes learning about research methods and analysis, reading academic research, and designing a research project.
- Interns will work with aggregate student data.
- Interns will present their research project to educators (E-12) at the Data Advance in August.

- We are especially interested in recruiting students with a passion for social justice and improving the educational experiences of students from minoritized backgrounds in US public school systems.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Students must be at least 14 years old and enrolled at St. Louis Park High School.
SELECTION PROCESS

- Interviews for finalists will begin during the week of May 27th via Zoom
- Youth Data Analyst interns will be notified by Monday , June 10th
- Internships will begin on Tuesday, June 24th
