Job Description

Sylvan is currently hiring a Teacher Assistant, with hours ranging from 5 to 20 hours per week, at our Lake Zurich/Barrington, IL and Schaumburg locations! Role is perfect for college students, especially those at Harper or other local colleges. Interest in education or related college major or career path is a plus. Tutoring experience, or other leadership roles with students (camp counselor, coach, lifeguard) also a plus. Benefits:

• Flexible hours, with seven days a week from which to choose (though Saturday and/or Sunday are a requirement)

Teacher Assistant Requirements:

• Education/Teaching Degree interest a plus
• 2 years tutoring or working with students preferred
• Great opportunity for Harper or other local college students

Teacher Assistant Skills and Qualifications:

• Greet and direct students at drop-off and pick-up, establishing a fun, welcoming learning environment
• Support teachers with administrative and curriculum needs
• Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to multi-task
• Answer parent questions in-person, phone and email
• Provide summary for our Educational Team
• Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching, learning, and Sylvan
• Utilize computer systems to support teachers and communicate internally and externally

About Sylvan Learning Centers:

• We are the industry leaders in providing supplemental education to children in pre-K through 12th grade
• We provide individualized instruction in Comprehension, Reading, English, Writing, Math and Study Skills.
• We also offer Homework Support, ACT/SAT Test Prep, and STEM
• Given the pandemic, we are seeing growing needs for tutoring
• We teach 7 days per week
