Job Summary

For over 130 years, the Martha O’Bryan Center (MOBC) has been committed to building stronger communities by addressing the root causes of poverty and expanding opportunity for children, youth, and families across Nashville and Middle Tennessee. MOBC delivers inclusive, high-quality programs in education, workforce development, community revitalization, and family success, alongside vital advocacy initiatives that aim to eliminate systemic barriers to upward mobility.

The next President and CEO will lead these efforts, guiding MOBC through its next era of growth and innovation. This leader will have an extraordinary opportunity to expand the organization’s national impact, strengthen its partnerships, and build on MOBC’s legacy of service and transformation. The incoming CEO will also foster organizational sustainability, drive strategic initiatives, and serve as a visible ambassador for MOBC’s mission and vision.

MOBC seeks a visionary, mission-driven leader with a proven record of advancing solutions for economic mobility, education, and equity. The ideal candidate will be an authentic and approachable leader who inspires collaboration, cultivates inclusion, and brings creativity, tenacity, and strong relationship-building skills. They will demonstrate success in organizational leadership, fundraising, and advocacy, with a commitment to addressing complex social issues through innovative and scalable approaches.

Job Responsibilities

The incoming President and CEO will work collaboratively with constituents, stakeholders, community leaders, partners, donors, Board, and staff to ensure that everyone can prosper and reach their full potential. This individual is an effective and compelling leader who fosters vibrant teamwork, pursues quality, promotes equity, and engenders mutual respect.

Responsibilities include:

1.Leadership: Accelerates progress in achieving the MOBC’s mission, values, and goals byinfluencing and guiding internal and external constituencies. Brings fresh perspectives andnew approaches to community leadership and strategic plan implementation. Understandsthat authentic leaders are approachable, active listeners who engage with and value thelife experience and perspectives of others.

2.Management: Coaches and supports a diverse staff of many lived experiences, identities,and philosophies, while creating an equitable and inclusive work environment. Builds andperpetuates a participatory and accountable culture. Works to strengthen and grow theorganization through ongoing staff professional development.

3.Fundraising: Executes proven fundraising skills through active solicitation of contributionsfrom individuals, foundations, and corporations, working in partnership with an engagedBoard of Directors. Demonstrates success leading fundraising campaigns in partnershipwith a development team, while having a hands-on role with significant asks andmeasurable results. Familiarity with Nashville’s philanthropy and business community is aplus, and experience in overseeing a comprehensive fundraising plan will be of strongvalue.

4. Relationships: Connects, engages and inspires! Works transparently, comfortably, and effectively with diverse constituencies in many different settings. Builds and maintains effective relationships that translate into successful collaborations, impactful initiatives, and diverse funding streams.

5. Innovation: Synthesizes robust streams of data and information to identify themes, trends, and opportunities that may benefit a complex funding environment. Visionary leader who is attentive to rapidly changing external forces and how these changes may impact constituents and stakeholders. Champions existing and new approaches in service to building thriving communities.

6. Communications: Promotes the MOBC to stakeholders, the media, funders and partners. Understands the importance of strategic communications and knows how to tell stories that inspire, while making topics compelling and accessible. Enjoys being the organization’s ambassador and chief spokesperson, providing thought leadership in a variety of forums. Supports deployment of technology and uses digital media to support effective communication with a wide range of constituencies in a dynamic environment. Demonstrates special emphasis on internal communications as well as external communications.

Qualifications

The incoming President and CEO will:

1. Demonstrate a strong career path of leadership and management experience in the nonprofit, public, or private sector, preferably with experience in advancing solutions for economic mobility with low-wealth individuals.

2. Bring creativity, tenacity, and a collaborative style to the role. Can build consensus to drive a shared vision for achieving the MOBC’s strategic priorities.

3. Have demonstrated success in leading financially accountable and sustainable projects, initiatives, and programs, as well as experience building durable relationships with communities, partners, policymakers, donors, stakeholders, and constituencies.

4. Possess the ability to maintain and develop a healthy organizational culture based on trust, aligned priorities, and collective action.

5. Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university is required; a graduate degree or continuing education is preferred but not required.

Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position annually is $300,000–$350,000, with relocation assistance available. A generous benefits package is offered, including: Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance; Basic and Voluntary Life/AD&D Insurance; Disability Insurance; Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity Insurance; an Employee Assistance Program (EAP); Flexible Spending Account; and a 401(k) Retirement Plan with a 4% match.
