THE OPPORTUNITY 

Highline College (HC) is seeking qualified applicants for one part-time faculty counselor position in the Counseling Center. The successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to use equity-minded approaches to providing individual and group therapy and psychoeducation for racially, ethnically, linguistically, and socioeconomically diverse students, including assessments relevant to students; valuing what students already know; and empowering students to demonstrate knowledge in multiple ways as appropriate for the discipline(s) or program(s). Candidates should be able and excited to provide individual and group short-term personal counseling; crisis intervention and urgent response; individual and group career and educational counseling and assessments; and provide and coordinate wellness outreach programming to the campus community.

Highline part-time Counselors (faculty) work 20 hours per week, 14 hours dedicated to direct counseling service, 6 hours dedicated to Counseling team meeting and consultation, professional supervision, leading and participating in departmental and college-wide activities, advising students, and participating in college service. 

This position is expected to begin in Spring Quarter 2025.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Counseling : Provide individual and group short-term personal counseling; crisis intervention and urgent response; individual and group career and educational counseling and assessments; provide and coordinate wellness outreach programming to the campus community; support students through collaboration with partnering departments (i.e. Access, Benefits HUB, etc.) as well as outside entities providing care to students. Counselors are required to document their counseling services in the electronic healthcare record system (a system restricted to the Counseling Center and not part of the student record);
  • Service Engage in department, division and college initiatives, participate in shared governance, promote the college's values and perform other contracted duties and responsibilities (for example, faculty/staff consultation, community outreach) as required;
  • Professional development: Maintain competence in the discipline through professional development activities; adhere to ethical standards of the American Psychological Association and the American Counseling Association and the statutes and laws (WAC and RCW) of the State of Washington.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

? Master's Degree in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work (or related degree) from a regionally accredited institution; AND 

?Washington State Mental Health Clinician, Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Psychologist License (Associate License acceptable).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

?Experience working in a higher education setting;

?Experience and training in providing clinical services to students representing our diverse and intersectional student body. Specifically, Asian, Pacific Islander, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, Veteran students, and students with disabilities;

?Demonstrated commitment to social justice and ongoing development of intercultural competence;

?Demonstrated experience engaging in equity-minded teaching and counseling;

?Experience promoting universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in the production of accessible content and communications, whether print or electronic;

?Fluency in one or more languages other than English;

?Strong communication and interpersonal skills;

?Experience using career assessments and career counseling;

?Ability to problem-solve, handle sensitive information and difficult situations tactfully and confidentially.
