General Requirements:

Mental Health Counselor I: Master's degree in Counselor Education, Counseling, or Clinical or Psychology. Practica/field placement relevant to college counseling. Eligible to become a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor ( LPC ). Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.

Mental Health Counselor II: Master's degree in Counselor Education, Counseling, or Clinical or Psychology. One year post master's experience in a college counseling center or other relevant setting. Licensed Professional Counselor ( LPC ) in the State of Texas. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.

Mental Health Counselor III : Master's degree in Counselor Education, Counseling, or Clinical or Psychology or Doctorate in Counselor Education. Five years full-time equivalent post-licensure experience in a college counseling center or other relevant setting – or – CCMHC / MAC credential and three years full-time post licensure experience in a college or university counseling center or relevant setting. Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor ( LPCS ) in the State of Texas. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.

Mental Health Counselor IV: Master's degree in Counselor Education, Counseling, or Clinical or Psychology or Doctorate in Counselor Education. Ten years full-time equivalent post-licensure experience in a college counseling center or other relevant setting – or – CCMHC / MAC credential and seven years full-time post licensure experience in a college or university counseling center or relevant setting. Licensed Professional Counselor – Supervisor ( LPC -S) in the State of Texas. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.

In addition to the above requirements, must have: a.) three refereed publications b.) five state, regional, or national professional presentations that are relevant to job function c.) substantial professional organization activity* – or – CCMHC or MAC credential AND ONE of the following: a.) one refereed publication b.) two state, regional, or national professional presentations that are relevant to job function c.) substantial professional organization activity*

* Substantial professional organization activity means major involvement in a professional association, including holding office in a state, regional, or national association, or service on a committee or board of a state, regional or national professional organization

Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:

Provides clinical mental health services to the student body of Sam Houston State University for the Counseling Center.

Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):

Mental Health Counselor I, II, III , IV: Provides personal counseling via individual, couples, and group modalities as well as crisis intervention. Participates in the development and delivery of prevention-based outreach programming. Provides consultation for the camps community, participates in the centers after-hours on-call rotation, and participates on appropriate Counseling Center and /or university committees. Performs other related duties as assigned.
