Overview:

Introduction to GIS utilization within a civil engineering firm and how GIS applications can be incorporated within engineering and surveying workflows to broaden and support project objectives. Intern will gain exposure to design and development of GIS data infrastructure, conducting desktop reconnaissance, and performing spatial analyses.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Direction

• Perform work under direct supervision of an experienced professional and follow established procedures and clearly defined processes.

At the Operational and Company Level

• Interact with multiple departments and peers within the organization and participate in intern program learning and development opportunities. 

Do the Work

• Acquire and organize GIS data.
• Perform cartographic design and constraint mapping.
• Convert GIS data (feature creation and attribute assignment) from other data formats.
• Develop and document GIS procedures.
• Support GIS project initiatives.
• Provide GIS technical support and troubleshooting.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record required.
• Enrolled in a college degree program pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Geography, GIS, or related field. 
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• One or more (1+) years of practical work experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Esri ArcGIS software, geodatabase concepts, and editing tools are essential.
• Demonstrated proficiencies with data management, mapping techniques & methods.
• Introductory knowledge of AutoCAD, basic GPS techniques, Python, Arcade, and FME preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) preferred.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

• Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
• Mobility around an office environment.
• Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
• Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
• Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
• Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
