POSITION SUMMARY:

The Executive Director of Nursing at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, Maternal, Fetal & Neonatal Institute is a key member of the nursing leadership team and is responsible for setting strategies and the future direction of their area. There is also responsibility for all nursing related aspects of care delivered in the Institute or Department including financial management and oversight, clinical quality, engagement, nursing research, work force management and professional practice. In support of professional nursing practice the Executive Director of Nursing provides leadership and creates a culture that supports the delivery of patient centered, specialized, evidence based nursing care across the continuum through an interprofessional approach to treatment, research, education and advocacy. This position contributes to the goals of Nursing and Patient Care Services by being accountable for the delivery of compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice as defined by the Florida Board of Nursing and JHACH policy. Through collaborative practice with all members of the care team, this role is responsible for patient outcomes that meet the high quality of care provided by JHACH. The professional practice of nursing at JHACH involves the promotion of a culture of innovation and a commitment to academic growth and professional development. The Executive Director of Nursing also works closely with all members of the leadership team including Institute Physician Leaders and other interprofessional care team members to ensure alignment with the clinical and academic mission of the organization. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Collaborates with the Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer (VP/CNO) in participating in the development, implementation and monitoring of the Nursing Strategic Plan and other business plans that impact professional nursing practice; participates with the Institute/Department Physician Leader and Executive Director Institute Administration in establishing vision and strategic direction; supports and establishes goals that connect the vision back to the hospital and effectively translates strategy into a clear vision.
  2. Develops an environment that is supportive of shared decision making, shared governance, an engaged workforce and demonstrates personal and professional accountability in the development of high functioning teams.
  3. Supports research and innovation to promote children’s health and the advancement of the nursing profession; uses evidence based data to influence safety innovations and improve quality outcomes.
  4. Responsible for maintaining a communication system that interfaces with the medical staff and other leaders and departments to ensure quality patient care; impacts change through credible influence and negotiation with other senior leaders.
  5. Anticipates challenges or barriers, proactively seeks solutions, acts promptly and decisively to transform ideas into improved outcomes and sustain results; effectively leads and managers change in the organization, measures the impact of changes to help quantify the effect of improvement and develop new tools to assist in performance monitoring.
  6. Leads and supports ongoing activities that promote safe practices, safe environments, and best outcomes; develops quality improvement processes that include goals and defined performance measurements, monitors division performance against the appropriate national benchmark; promotes patient centered care.
  7. Manages and oversees, via analysis of the areas of responsibility, for financial and budgetary performance, including explanation and justification of actual vs. budget variations of core cost centers; directs, coordinates and or participates in the preparation of the annual operating and capital budget for the areas of responsibility, the Division of Nursing and the Institute/Department assigned.
  8. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as the Joint Commission and Agency for Healthcare Administration; develops hospital policy and provides advice and counsel for policies affecting other departments.
  9. Implements strategies to promote the professional development of team members and enhances the delivery of clinical care and the professional growth of team members; coaches and mentors others.
  10. Responsible for the coordination of activities and ensures continual compliance with regulatory standards (i.e. TJC, CMS, AHCA, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Florida RN Licensure.
  • A Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing required; a Master’s degree in Nursing or related field required.
  • Minimum of seven to ten years of progressive management experience.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in an academic medical center or hospital/clinic environment or a health care integrated delivery system, preferred.
  • Certified as a Nurse Executive by the American Nurse’s Credentialing Center or American Organization of Nurse Executives. Or must obtain one of these certifications within 6 months of hire date.
  • Expert verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in presentation.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of a Magnet-designated nursing organization and the ability to provide guidance and support to achieve and maintain designation.
  • An effective communicator with strong oral and written skills; reads, writes and understands English; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and proficiency in presentation.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model.
  • Must be able to create and maintain strong working relationships with health system management and executive leadership ensuring that department strategic, financial and operational issues are addressed appropriately.

Salary Range: Minimum 15,652.00 - Maximum 195,287.00. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

The position also offers a 15% incentive bonus
