Job Description



AECOM Water is seeking an Entry Level Water/Wastewater Engineer to be based in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Internships at AECOM offer students in undergraduate and graduate programs the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in engineering, design, and infrastructure projects that make a real-world impact. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides technical support for a variety of utility design related projects, including treatment plants, pump/booster stations, water line and collection line design, rehabilitation, master planning, and construction administration.
  • Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings.
  • Work under supervision of a senior project manager in the water/wastewater/water resources practice or senior level team members.
  • Utilize basic engineering principles, judgement, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems.
  • Work on routine or detailed engineering assignments involving calculations and engineering analyses.
  • Perform work with little supervision.
  • Propose approaches to solve new problems.
  • Identify discrepancies in outcomes, results, and analysis of engineering tasks.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Record field data using tablets and GPS units.
  • Record and interpret data, conduct analyses, prepare reports, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Perform data gathering site visits, field measurements, mapping, and observations during construction.
  • Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
  • Software use includes, but is not limited to: AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS, Bentley and/or hydraulic modeling packages.
  • Inspect construction crews’ work to ensure compliance with the contract documents plans, including and specifications on active construction contracts
  • Identify and inform the project manager or Lead Inspector of observed problems
  • Work with supervisor to address public and contractor questions
  • Make measurements and observations of work being performed to ensure accurate quantities are tracked for completed work.

Qualifications



Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering + none or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • A valid U.S. Driver’s License is required to regularly drive AECOM vehicles to project sites.
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.

  • Progressive experience with water/wastewater utility planning, modeling, condition assessment, and design.
  • Basic knowledge of industry-standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD, HCS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, and Hydrologic/Hydraulic models, Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated time management skills, work ethic, and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with contractors technicians, designers, engineers, and project managers for the preparation of high-quality work products.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with clients, sub-consultants, regulatory agencies, and members of the public as may be necessary to accomplish assigned objectives.
  • Ability to work productively in a collaborative team environment and demonstrate growth potential as well as a desire to learn.
  • Detail-oriented while still able to understand/comply with the big picture/goals of a project.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Flexible – can adapt to shifting priorities/work schedules.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Self-learner.
  • Can take direction from others and in turn can guide others.
