CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of Delaware is nationally recognized for its exceptional educational experiences and for integrating instruction, research, and public engagement. With 24 academic departments in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, more than 25 centers, programs, and institutes, and featuring outstanding research and teaching facilities, CAS serves over 7,500 students, is supported by approximately 400 staff, and maintains annual operating expenditures of over $121M. The College’s 600 faculty members emphasize the enduring value of an arts and sciences education and a deep commitment to excellence in scholarship and all forms of creative and intellectual expression, with sponsored research expenditures totaling more than $38.6M per fiscal year.

Under the limited direction of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Academic Affairs and in partnership with the Office of Admissions, the Associate Director for Enrollment Management develops and implements a comprehensive enrollment strategy for the largest College at UD, housing more than 90 majors. The Associate Director works closely with UD Enrollment Management and CAS leadership, faculty, the College’s Student Success Center, CAS Events, CAS Communications, and campus partners to support UD enrollment objectives and recruitment activities. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and coordinate CAS undergraduate enrollment activities for the College. Work closely with UD’s Admissions Office and College leadership to establish admissions targets and ensure alignment between College and UD-wide enrollment. Develop programmatic efforts to improve yield rates and reduce melt.
  • Work closely with the Provost Office and UD Enrollment Management to address student enrollment challenges and barriers, especially for nontraditional students and in special sessions.
  • Coordinate with the Student Success Center to obtain a thorough understanding of the College’s major and minor offerings, relevant academic policies and processes, and all student support services offered in CAS and at UD, including internships, undergraduate research, tutoring, and other experiential learning opportunities. Ensure the accuracy of current offerings and shares with Admissions team for recruitment purposes.
  • Partner with each of the College’s departments, including the Associate in Arts Program, as well as interdisciplinary majors to identify goals and capacity constraints and determine yearly targets in conjunction with Enrollment Management.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the annual enrollment planning cycle of all CAS recruitment activities. Provide reporting and data analysis on activities and results and recommend to College Leadership, Department Chairs, and the Admissions Office necessary strategic adjustments.
  • Advise department chairs on program specific strategies/opportunities to expand the pool of applicants in their programs.
  • Oversee the College’s recruitment budget for 25+ departments and programs. Partner with the CAS Director for Financial Operations to provide enrollment metrics to inform College budgeting and planning, and to ensure effective resource allocation. 
  • Supervise team to support various yield -related activities which includes full time staff, miscellaneous wage employees, and student workers and/or interns.
  • Coordinate with the CAS Events team, the CAS Communications team, and the Admissions Office to execute an enrollment-related events strategy for both the College as a whole and for 25+ individual departments to best showcase CAS academic programs and offerings, resulting in increased enrollment to the College.
  • Represent CAS at University of Delaware recruitment events and at College open houses.
  • Recommend continual enhancements to prospective student webpages and creates content for social media and the College’s traditional web presence. Collaborate with key stakeholders to assist with developing CAS presentation content and materials for recruitment events. 
  • Lead the review process for the College’s published major and minor offerings in Major Finder, encompassing more than 90 majors with support from CAS Communications and Department leadership.  
  • Support the Admissions Office to identify CAS-specific areas of study where cultivation of connections with high school counselors and community college advisors would result in the building of the College’s applicant pool and effective promotion of its programs.
  • Oversee CAS-specific activities, and coordinate college faculty, staff, and student representation, during major UD admissions recruitment events, including Blue and Golden Days, Decision Days.  Coordinate training to CAS Ambassadors regarding college tours, information sessions, and classroom visits.
  • Design or adopt data-driven tools for targeted recruiting and for assessing the effectiveness of CAS recruitment strategies. Use data to inform decisions about recruiting activities. Analyze and interpret these data and report the results to CAS leadership.
  • Oversee the College’s Student Advisory Council, a volunteer undergraduate group, to promote communication of relevant and helpful information between students and the college administration. Lead council member recruitment, selection, coordination, and hold regular meetings each fall and spring semesters.
  • Support and coordinates the College’s Ambassador Program, a paid group of students of undergraduate students who assist in promoting the college via recruitment events.
  • Represent the college on several University-wide committees, Enrollment Management groups, relevant Assistant Dean meetings, as well as ad hoc committees as requested by the Dean or University administration. 
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and six years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of higher education.
  • Advanced working knowledge of undergraduate academic enrollment and advisement policies, procedures, systems, regulations, and standards at the university level is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate to students on course prerequisites, certification, and/or curriculum/graduation requirements.
  • Basic knowledge of marketing and market research.
  • Experience in successfully managing multiple projects, particularly across departments requiring committee leadership and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills with experience working productively independently and as a team member with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Strong creative, oral and written communication skills as well as strong presentation skills.
  • Experience in managing multiple priorities, organizing, resource management, and working with tight deadlines.
  • Proficient computer skills including use of presentation, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Experience with SLATE is preferred.
  • A high degree of personal and professional integrity, poise, maturity, and excellent judgment.
  • Experience in managing budgets and financial reporting.
  • Ability to self-motivate, make independent judgment and to perform tasks on own initiative 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Travel required. Valid driver’s license and regular access to a private means of transportation.
  • Some evening and weekend work will be required throughout the year.
